-FARM-FACT-FRIDAY- Repurposing a Loader Tire to Make a Water Trough

Updated: Jan 2, 2022

Here's a look at how we repurpose huge loader tires into water troughs!

First, we get a tire, usually free, and power wash it to remove any industrial crud. Then drill a pilot hole in the sidewall so a saw blade will fit. Next, use a sawzall to quickly buzz out the top so cows can reach in to drink.

After the tire's prepped it's ready to deliver to the pasture. Here the tire is placed over a buried waterline. The center of the tire bottom is then filled with 800lbs of dry concrete and packed into the bead. Finally, the water is turned on and the concrete is cured under water for a super solid seal.
